About Cumberland Valley Girls Rugby

The Cumberland Valley Girls Rugby Team is only four years old, but the team has been through a lot in this short amount of time. In the beginning no one really knew what they were getting themselves into. A few girls showed up to at a boys meeting interested in starting a team. Names were collected, possible coaches were contacted, and practice fields were set up in just a month. A total of forty-five girls showed up to the first practice. Bets and negative comments were made regarding the validity of our sport, only to fill the team with more motivation. Through snow, ice, and rain the team conditioned, practiced, and learned the game of rugby. Virtually no one had any knowledge or experience prior to our first game, but that's all it took. The season started out rough. The first couple games were almost embarrassing but the lessons learned, and knowledge gained made it alright.

When play-offs started the girls proved themselves to be a real rugby team and moved on to the winners bracket (top four teams in the state) to place first and gain the title of Division Two State Champions of 2005, moving the team up to division one. It was a big change, and hard to get used to for a team that was only in it's second year, but they looked forward to the challenge. The team has held their ground in division one, taking the good with the bad. Keeping the memories that make us wonder "what were we thinking?", and others that make all the bumps, blood and bruises well worth it. The team is very proud of where it came from. It hasn't been easy, but all the time and effort from every player and every parent has really paid off. While where Cumberland Valley Girls Rugby came from is very important with next season coming up fast where we are going is where the focus should be. Three cheers for the past, three cheers for the future, three cheers for the CV girls rugby team.
